Malaysia - Beautiful Malaysian Islands Part 1
65Malaysian Islands
Malaysian Islands
Malaysia is home to a few gorgeous islands that make the perfect getaway for some time in the sun. These islands are usually popular with the local population and especially with tourists from a variety of countries.
Listed below are a number of famous islands that get frequent tourist traffic all year round except during the monsoon season which is usually from the months of Novemeber to January. They all start with the malay word "pulau" which simply means "island".
Pulau Tengah
Pulau Langkawi
Pulau Langkawi is an immensely popular stop for locals and tourists alike. It is located off the north western coast of peninsula Malaysia and resides in the state of Kedah. While there are numerous smaller islands around Pulau Langkawi, most activities take place on the main island itself.
Unfortunately, the beaches on the main island such as the popular Pantai Cenang aren't exactly known for its beach simply because it isn't a great beach. If you are looking for pristine white sands and crystal clear waters, you have to go to the surrounding islands and specific locations on Pulau Langkawi.
Some activities that you must try out during your stay include, Eagle feeding (An eye opener), their cable car ride which offers a great view and be sure to visit the surrounding islands.
Pulau Perhentian
Pulau Perhentian
The state of Terangganu which is a north eastern state on the Malaysian peninsula, has some stunning islands that is sure to meet the needs of the most discerning island hopper. We start off with Pulau Perhentian.
Generally known for their pristine beaches and blue waters, this area is a great place for the scuba diving enthusiast. The two main islands are called Perhentian Kecil (small) and Perhentian Besar (big). You will notice that most locals in the area speak the Malaysian language in a specific accent that is indigenious to the northern regions. Its more of a slang with some different words thrown in.
Its a good island to visit but in my humble opinion, thre are better ones in the surrounding areas, more on that in Malaysia - Beautiful Malaysian Islands Part 2. Stay Tuned.
